The Next Step Foundation focuses on preventing accidents associated with drug and alcohol use largely because many of us have been personally affected by impaired driving. Statistics help tell a story that is impossible to properly convey without an emphasis on the deep damage such acts can have on many individuals.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 29% of all fatal crashes involving 15- to 20-year-olds in 2019 were alcohol-related. This alarming statistic highlights the need for continued efforts to reduce the number of DUI-related accidents among young people.
One way to address this issue is through education and awareness campaigns aimed at high school students. By speaking directly to young people about the dangers of drunk driving, we can help prevent them from making risky decisions that could have devastating consequences.
At The Next Step Foundation, we believe that prevention is key when it comes to reducing DUI-related accidents. That’s why we have made it our mission to speak at high schools across Arizona, sharing our message of responsible decision-making and the importance of never getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
By speaking to students in person, we are able to connect with them on a personal level and make a lasting impact. We can share real-life stories and experiences that resonate with young people and help them understand the consequences of their actions.
The impact of our work is clear. Studies have shown that education and awareness campaigns can be effective in reducing DUI-related accidents among young people. In fact, a study by the National Institutes of Health found that students who received education about the dangers of drunk driving were significantly less likely to drive under the influence than those who did not receive such education.
But our work is far from done. With so many people still being affected by DUI-related accidents, it is clear that we need to continue our efforts to spread the message of responsible decision-making. By speaking at more high schools and reaching more young people, we can make a real difference in reducing the number of DUI-related accidents and saving lives. By educating young people about the dangers of drunk driving and providing them with the tools they need to make responsible decisions, we can help prevent tragedy and keep our communities safe.
